Truman Capote takes the story of two murderers and humanizes the both of them. Instead of just telling the story and making them look like bad and cruel people, he shows a different side of them. He shows them as normal human beings and is trying to do the best for them. Capote is going out of his way to help them and to get them a fair trial. I like how Truman does this because he is showing both sides of the story. He is not just going from one point of veiw, he is getting different perspectives of the story and he is talking to Dick and Perry to get their life stories and to explain who they really are so people know who they are as people and not as murderers.

Salinger and The Catcher in the Rye

"He was happy to get away from his over-protective mother."(wikepedia). In the book Holden also has a over-protective mother and he was happy to get away from her. This is one of the things that connects Holden and Salinger that brings the autobiographicalness out in the book. They were both born in New York and they both struggled in school. In the book we got to see Holden get better and Salinger finshed three books towards the end of his second semester. "I forgot to tell you about that. They kicked me out."(pg 4, Salinger). The both couldn't hold a spot in a prep school very long. This book was basically Salinger is Holdens body.

Holden can be an average teen if you look at the basics. Every teen goes through their certain problems and have their opinions about anything and everying anything. Teens grow up hating a lot of things, including me. There are just somethings that I can't stand, but thats ok. "In the first place, I hate actors. They don't act like people. They just think they do." (p. 117) He is a normal teen to me because he likes real people he doesn't like the fakes or "phony" which I can completely relate to. Another thing that I can relate Holden to is how he acts. He acts so tough and so broad. He is your average teenager thinking they are invunerable when really I just think he is holding everything inside. Teenagers, espicailly guys, will hide their true emotions by doing whatever it is that will make them look cool, like drugs and alcohol, which Holden turned to as well. Holden says he hates phony people, but yet he seems to be one of them. So maybe he is dissapointed in himself.

The film One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest was very good. The acting was very good and seemed extremely real. The film did have some things that were not part of the book, but it made it al the better. You could relate back to the book and actually see his reactions in some of the meetings that they had at the ward and how he acted towards the big nurse. I can also see how Ken Kesey did not like the film because of how it portrayed some of the characters. Some people would get a different response out of the movies characters then the books characters and he didnt want that.
